Allotments

Vegetables
The Parish Council has seventeen allotments on two sites within the village, neither of which has mains water or on-site car parking. Rents are therefore quite low. Plots and half-plots are available, but the turnover of allotment-holders is also low and there is sometimes a waiting list.

The allotments are administered by Cllr Geoff Twiss on behalf of the Parish Council, and anyone interested in renting an allotment should contact him in the first instance on 01296 720724.

Cricket Club

CricketThe club can trace back its history over at least 125 years and has always played an active part in village life.  On Saturdays Drayton plays league cricket in the Morrant Four Counties League, and on Sundays friendlies against local sides. The club encourages village youngsters and is always on the look-out for new players.  It purchased a mobile net in 2008 as a means of bringing on players. The President and Vice Presidents, who are mainly residents of the village, have all supported the club over many years through their generous contributions.

Women's Institute

WIWe are a small but thriving WI, founded in 1939, with around 16 members covering a spread of ages. We enjoy a varied selection of speakers and activities, the odd trip out, and in addition to our monthly meetings run a luncheon club which ventures out into the countryside at lunchtime on the first Wednesday of every month to sample different pubs and restaurants in the area – a pleasant social event to which “other halves” are also invited.

Our monthly meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month (except August) in the village hall, usually in the Carrington Room, and meetings start at 7.30 pm and end around 10 pm. Details about each meeting and confirmation of the venue will always be on display on the village notice board at the entrance to the sports field about a week beforehand.

See the Womens Institute menu to the left for more information.
